1. Failover in the event of an outage

An outage is defined by the Wave administrator. It may be an issue with a Call Center or a complete failure of the Wave itself. Whatever triggers the decision to failover, there are two simple steps that the Wave administrator must take to ensure a quick and successful failover:

To respond to an outage

1 Disconnect the primary Wave from the network:

The primary Wave is likely not responding in an outage, and Vertical has no control over it. To ensure that it cannot interfere with the secondary Wave and a successful failover, the primary Wave must be disconnected from the network.

Important!  The primary Wave should never be on the network while the secondary Wave is in operation.

The method you choose to disconnect the primary Wave depends on customer needs and the particular network setup. You can:

Physically disconnect the Wave from the network.
Pull the power.
Use a script that disables the port the primary Wave connects to on a managed switch.
2 Initiate failover on the secondary Wave:
Log on to the secondary Wave.
In the Global Administrator Management Console, start the General Settings applet.
On the Business Continuity tab, click Activate this secondary server.

Failover to the secondary Wave occurs.
